We crave things we neither need nor enjoy. We buy things we do not want to impress people we do not like…It is time to awaken to the fact that conformity to a sick society is to be sick.

–Richard J. Foster, Celebration of Discipline: The Path to Spiritual Growth

Pastor Andy Lewis from Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina has put together another Coronavirus devotional. In the introduction he writes,

Let’s return from this quarantine more healthy and whole in every way – physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. But to do this, it will take hard work, and it will also take God’s truth. Over the next seven day, we will study some of the texts where people are reentering into society. Some are reemerging from an exile (Haggai, Nehemiah) or a tragic situation (Adam and Eve, Joseph). Others reenter with a new vision of what life should look like because of the truth of Christ (the Disciples)…By writing, I’m not advocating for any timeline of reemergence. Different states, communities, and countries will have to make that decision. And no matter what happens, we won’t emerge the same people. Let’s be prepared to give each other grace for different choices and a little bit more room on the pathway of life.
